Despite knowing the fact this band was named after a boat, and even after saying it 100 times, for some reason my brain wants to call them Enter Shakira, as in the Latin chick who shakes her hips and tits, and sings in Spanish. I am happy to report, these guys are far from any Latin pop singer. Although I think drummer, Rob, gives Shakira a run for her money when he does his high energy dance routine.( A definite must see!! )
I had actually wanted to see these guys about a year ago when they came through Seattle, however I wasn't able to make their show. When I heard they were opening for Aiden, I was stoked. I had heard their cd and visited their myspace page frequently, however, when I saw them play, it was nothing in comparison to their live show. It was almost as if a completely different band was playing. This is the only negative thing I can say. Usually it is the complete opposite, I hear a band's cd and think "Wow!! They are awesome!!" only to see them play live and then think, "Wow, they suck!!".
Anyone who knows me, knows I am picky about the music I like. Especially in a day and age where so many bands have the same sound. I am hungry for something new, something fresh, something that can shake my soul to the core. So like I said, I liked these guys, but had honestly expected very little from their live show.
I am here to tell you, that to see these guys live, is, well....., freaking awesome! Seriously....I am not shitting you. I found myself watching them play and thinking...."WHOA!! Is this the same band I listened to?"
Rory (guitar/vox) would flash his dimples and tear through amazing riffs. Rou sings thru his heart and manages to play keyboards/electronics while creating crazy new sounds to match his vocals. Chris and his bass draw the crowd in, with his energetic and charismatic performance. Between the four of them they manage to create a sound much bigger than they are. The crowd feels it, and willingly gives back as much energy as the band can put out. I remember overhearing some guys talking who had no idea who Enter Shikari was, and their words said it all, "These guys kick some serious ass, who are they?".
I have no doubt that people will soon know very well, who Enter Shikari is, these geezers know how to play, and the more they are exposed, the more they will be loved. I am not wrong, in fact my radar has been bang on for years. So if you're looking for something new , something fresh, and something a little different than the stuff being shoved down your throat, take a listen. Even better, catch these blokes in a live show. I guarantee you will walk away saying, "Yeah, I like these guys.".
I had the chance to sit down and interview Rou and Rory backstage before they played.

Jenn -How would you describe Enter Shikari to someone who's never heard of you before?
Rou- Interesting....horrible screamy stuff with silly bleepy noises...i dunno really, just energetic hardcore euphoric rock.
Jenn - I see you are playing a few dates with Aiden, did they find you? Or did you find them?
Rou- We met on a flight...it was our first time meeting them...anyway, our agent was looking for a tour for us to hop on cuz we're only here for a couple weeks so we thought it would be nice to join them.
Jenn - You answered my next question of how long are you going to be here in the US, so you leave in a couple of weeks?
Rory- Yeah, we get home on the 19th (February).
Jenn- That's convenient to get home AFTER valentines day...you don't have to buy and goodies for the girls eh?
(laughing) Rory and Rou- Yeah....well....
Jenn - Have you been received well over here? And have things changed in the past year with your American audience?
Rou - Haven't changed much....but every time we play it seems the enthusiasm seems to be getting bigger amongst the crowd, so that's great.
Jenn - Do you hope by playing with Aiden you'll expose your music to their fans?
Rory-Uh yeah of course, we'll steal all their fans! (laughs)
Rou - Every time we've played here, we've played our own shows with local supports, so it's nice to support them.
Jenn - What accomplishment are you most proud of today?
Rou - We really haven't had any accomplishments today...uh maybe we're at the venue?
Jenn- Cheeky bugger! I meant "to date", not today.
Rory -Having a full album, we're proud of it because we recorded it in 2 weeks and we can't wait to get in the studio and do it again.
Jenn - So what are your plans for the next year?
Rou- We've been on tour for 2 years really, so recording another album is first on the list.
Jenn - Are there any goals you haven't accomplished yet?
Rou- We don't really set ourselves any goals, we don't look that too far into the future. It started out as a hobby that we did for ourselves, and we're still doing it, so whatever happens is great.
Jenn - If you became absolutely massive, and could choose any band to open for you, who would you choose?
Rou - Pendulem, have you heard of them?...They're from the U.K. but I think they're just starting to make waves over here.
Jenn -What is your most memorable moment since touring the U.S.?
Rou - Any question that involves memory is difficult for us.
Rory- Yeah, everything eventually becomes a blur...like where are we ? What day is it? What town are we in?
Jenn- OK you can skip that question, how about...If you were asked to play on Warped Tour, would you?
Rou- We're thinking about it this year actually...we don't wanna do the whole slug...but it would be great to do it for a few weeks...but because we're touring the U.K. again, and Australia wants us back as well, we wouldn't be able to commit to the whole tour.
Jenn - I heard you like to start crazy rumors about yourself...is there one you want to start now?
Rory - On the first show of the tour, I smacked my guitar into Wil's head(Aiden).
Jenn- Nice! Well good luck boys and I hope to see you back in Seattle soon!
